Empowering the school community by building knowledge, competence and confidence
BrightBites is a website for the school community that provides evidence-based information and resources about food and bodies.
Fostering Positive Relationships
A school climate that fosters positive relationships with food and bodies, contributing to the overall health and wellbeing of the school community.
The whole school community
Educators can use this website to create teaching and learning environments that are grounded in neutral and inclusive approaches.
School administrators and school/student councils can access information and tools to create a supportive school food climate.
Neutral and Inclusive
A neutral approach to food is one that presents food as morally equivalent and without judgement. It is true that not all foods are nutritionally equal but they should be morally equal. Using a neutral approach when talking and teaching about food helps students build a positive relationship with food.
An inclusive approach to bodies is one that ensures all body shapes and sizes feel accepted and welcomed. All bodies, regardless of shape or size, deserve respect and equitable treatment. This approach contributes to creating a supportive climate that embraces diversity, helps increase self-esteem, and reduces the risk of discrimination.
