Success Story

In order to promote healthy eating, we decided to run a “makeover” of our pizza day and order whole grain dough for all pizzas for the entire school instead of white dough. Students were informed via morning announcements and parents via weekly newsletter of the importance of eating whole grain dough versus white dough. The challenge was very well accepted. Of course, we did give parents the option to order white dough if their child so desired. We are excited to announce that 99% of our students accepted the “menu makeover” challenge and enjoyed whole grain dough on our recent Pizza/Civvies Day (Friday, March 31, 2017). The results were very positive as students ate it all up and thoroughly enjoyed it. Could this be a trend that we continue? We will have to take a vote and see!

Success Story

To earn this badge, a campaign was organized to encourage students from JK to Grade 8 to bring only non-sugary drinks to school. It was suggested that water, non-flavoured milk and/or a fruit or veggie smoothie be packed for school on Thursday March 23, 2017. A newsletter was emailed to parents and students informing them of this Sip Smart campaign. Posters were also put up throughout the school encouraging students to avoid sugary drinks such as pop, fruit juices and energy drinks and “Sip Smart”! On the day of the event, teachers performed a nutrition checkup and we are excited to announce that 95% of students met this challenge and received Future Aces merit points.

Success Story

As part of our newsletter, parents and students from JK to Grade 8 were informed that to bring awareness to Nutrition Month, a challenge would be taking place on Wednesday March 22, 2017. The challenge was to encourage students to pack a lunch with one food item from each of the four food groups. Staff and faculty were challenged as well. Teachers performed a nutrition checkup on the day of this event. Students who met this challenge received merit points for their house team. To assist parents in helping students meet this challenge, the school’s “lunch lady” prepared 4 food group packages for parents to order on the day of this event. We are proud to say that 90% of our students completed this challenge. A positive learning experience for all in healthy eating!

Success Story

To bring awareness to National Nutrition Month, a bulletin board was created in the school’s reception area the first week of March. The board read “spring into healthy eating” with a large grape made out of balloons. The board had a positive impact on parents and students and started conversations about healthy eating. A great starting point to all of our upcoming Nutrition Month campaigns!
